RAF Valley Update and Refurbishment Project

CLIENT

RAF Valley on Anglesey is home to No 4 Flying Training School, responsible for training the UK's next generation of world-class fighter pilots.

Aircrew are also trained at RAF Valley for mountain and maritime operations throughout the world.

RAF Valley is also home to the Mountain Rescue Service, the military's only high readiness, all weather search and rescue, aircraft post-crash management asset.

CHALLENGE

LAML started on this project in July 2024, initially with a single SME then a further 2 technicians in September 2024. By January 2025, the team consisted of 6 technicians and 1 AGL supervisor.

The project consisted of rewiring the secondary runway, approach lights, PAPIs (Precision Approach Path Indicator) and several taxiways/ASPs (Aircraft Servicing Platforms) and installing LED lights with new transformers. If all on schedule, the project will complete at the end of September 2025.

In total we will have furnished over 300 new lighting pits, pull in and connect 55kms of primary cable and 30kms of secondary cable with nearly 300 transformers and LED lights. Alongside all the AGL works we have helped to organise a rowing competition, raising over £1k and help to collect over 600kgs of food stuff for the Anglesey foodbank.
